Services

Who comes to Amyand Park Chapel?

Anyone and everyone are more than welcome. APC's congregation comes from a variety of backgrounds, ages and traditions. It numbers around 150.

What happens at your services?

Our Sunday services are focused on meeting with the living God, which is why the Bible is central.

Services include:

  • Church announcements
  • Singing together a variety of songs (words projected on screen or hymn book).
  • We have a time of prayer, led from the front
  • We have a short children’s talk (morning only) before the children leave for morning school
  • We hear the Bible read to us and then explained in a sermon. The sermons are normally 30-45 mins in length. We use the English Standard Version (ESV) Bible.
  • Every few weeks, we share Communion

If you are not sure about the order of the service, please do not worry as the leader will guide the congregation with instructions throughout and you can follow what the rest of the congregation does. If you feel you are unable to stand, don’t worry, there are often other people sitting.

How long are the services?

The 11am and 6.30pm services are normally about an hour and fifteen minutes.

Do I need to bring anything?

No, you do not need to bring anything with you. We have bibles and hymn books for you to use. You are free to use a Bible app on your phone during the service to follow along.

Where should I sit?

You can sit anywhere you like. If you are unsure where to sit, please ask a member of the welcome team and they will be happy to show you to an available seat in one of the pews. If you require more seating support, there are individual chairs at the back which are cushioned.

Can I attend online?

We always encourage people, if possible, to attend church in person so they can receive the benefits of worshiping in person together with God’s family. However, if you are unable for whatever reason, we do offer a livestream option via our YouTube channel.

What happens if I arrive late or need to leave early?

We understand and you are still very welcome. Please don’t feel any embarrassment. The doors might be closed to keep the noise levels down but are not locked and so please do come in. The welcome team will be happy to show you a suitable seat.

Do you collect money during the service?

No. There is a collection box at the rear of the church if you feel you wish to give, but don’t feel pressured into putting anything in. We believe that giving our money to God's work in this Church is an act of worship and our members freely give to support our church. Most of them do so online by standing orders and utilising GiftAid. If you wish to know more, you can speak to our Treasurer Gavin Skilton.

Will I be asked to do anything during the service?

No. Whilst several people from the congregation play a role in our services, we want Amyand Park Chapel to be as safe and as unthreatening a place as possible, so you will never be asked to do anything you do not want to do. We do not ask visitors to introduce themselves or speak in the service, and no one is ever singled out.

What happens at the end of the service?

One of the joys of church life is meeting new people! If you come along for the first time, do speak to one of the welcoming team on the door or one of the elders (you can find out who they are on the 'Meet the Team' page) and say hello. They'd be delighted to answer any questions you have about church life, and do whatever they can to make you feel at home with us. People will often stay around after the service to chat and in the evening, we serve refreshments which are brought to you in the main hall. Once a month after the morning service we all stay on for a church lunch and all are welcome to join.

Can I bring my children?

Absolutely! We love having children in the services and have a lot of families in attendance. We have a children’s talk as part of the morning service, but we do also have an area at the back of the hall for creche aged children (0-3 years). The creche is staffed with two volunteers each week, but parents can also sit with their children. There are baby changing facilities in the female and disabled toilets.

We run a parallel morning school every week for children aged 4-11. Children listen to Bible stories, sing, learn memory verses, share news, engage in writing/colouring activities, and spend time in prayer. The children are split into two age groups (school years Reception, 1-2, and years 3-6) and there are also refreshments at the end for them. We run morning school until the end of the service and then you are welcome to come and collect your child.

Children normally go out to the creche and morning school after the children’s talk, unless there is communion, in which case they will go out after the second hymn. The person leading from the front will indicate when it is time.

All volunteers working with children have a current DBS certificate and we adhere to an up-to-date safeguarding policy.

What is the dress code?

There is no dress code - we want you to feel comfortable, so just come as you are!

What happens when there is Communion?

Communion takes place as soon as the sermon ends, and the children remain in morning school until it is finished. A communion service takes approximately 20 minutes. There are prayers, a short reflection and then the gluten-free bread and grape juice is distributed one after the other around the congregation by two deacons. Instructions are given from the person leading.

Can I take communion if I’m not a member?

If you know and love the Lord Jesus Christ and are a member of another local church, we welcome you to join us. If you are unsure about where you stand, feel free to let the bread and wine pass you by with no embarrassment but we’d still welcome you to stay and see what happens. If you have any questions or are interested in membership at APC, please feel free to ask one of the elders at the end of the service.
